About 6 months ago I purchased a keyboard case from Amazon to turn my mini iPad (series 5) into a small laptop! I did a ton of research before deciding to purchase this item, as I do with all items I purchase. (Anyone else here pro/con list lovers?!) When I was trying to find reviews on this specific item, I didn’t come across much at the time, but thought heck, lets get it and see how it works! (P.s. Items mentioned are all linked below at the very end of this post!)
I am SO GLAD I decided to purchase this item. First off… how cute is it?! I went with the rose gold option, which is a little more pinkish gold than the actual rose gold colored iPad. But, they also offer them in silver & black as well! The keys also have a backlight with 7 color options (or you can keep the backlight turned off of course, too), so there is something to fit anyones vibe!
Let’s get in to the functionality of this keyboard, shall we?! I am currently typing this blog post on this exact keyboard & I sure do love using it! The keys themselves on this are amazing! They are small enough to keep this like a compact laptop, but have enough depth to feel you pressing the key & to hear that infamous computer key click! I don’t know about you, but I HATE when I am typing on those super flat keyboards when you don’t even know if you are hitting the button because you can barely feel it. There is also no lag! I feel as though I am actually using a laptop!
One of the biggest reasons I searched for an item like this was for the conversion of tablet to laptop. When you are using an iPad, you obviously might want to use it as a tablet sometimes. I wanted something that was always attached to my laptop but that was easy to convert into a tablet. THIS DOES JUST THAT! Unlike other convertible keyboard cases that flip, this one SWIVELS! The swivel mechanism is such a game changer. This ensures that your beautiful keyboard is protected inside and not being ruined when you’re in tablet mode. I absolutely love this feature. I have been using this item for 6 months now and have had no issue with the swivel mechanism, but I can not say how it might hold up in the long run after years of wear and tear, although it could hold up great! I just have not owned this long enough to say that yet.
The swivel mechanism also allows you to turn your ipad in the other direction for presentation mode or to watch movies without seeing the keyboard. It is very versatile.
Want to hear another incredible fact about this item?! The battery life! You guys…it is AMAZING! I have only charged this once, yeah you read that right, ONCE since purchasing it & my battery light is still green! Now, I don’t use this all day long everyday, Nor do I use my backlight much, but I do use mine almost everyday to check emails, edit videos, type blog posts etc. So that battery life is blowing my mind!
A few things to take into consideration if you are looking to purchase this item other than the long term effects of the swivel mechanism would be the durability of the shell that protects your iPad. It is a very well made product & hugs my iPad mini tight in the shell (I never worry about it falling out as it is truly in there tight), but if this were to fall off a tall surface, I don’t know that the shell would do much to protect your device. Also, this product has nice weight to it, when your screen is open it sits nice and sturdy. But if you lean your screen back too far (like maybe 75%+ of the way back, which I never need to anyways) it starts to teeter because the weight pulling. Lastly the backlights. They are great if you are sitting in a dim room and need to see your keys better or just to have the fun colors, but I do notice that after a while of having them turned on and using the keys, they do start to flicker ever so slightly, so I am not sure how the backlight could hold up in the future. Personally, I never need to use the backlight because I use this at a desk or on the couch in a well lit room. But, it is something to still take into consideration.
Overall, I LOVE this product. I think it was a great investment & I got mine for under $50 on Amazon. Mine is for the iPad mini (series 5), so obviously if you’re looking to get one for the larger iPads, they will cost a little more. Despite the few “cons”, I still think this product is totally worth it. The pros outweigh the few cons in my opinion.
