Looking for the perfect digital calendar app?! Look no further!
I have been using the same digital calendar app for 6 years now… 6 years! Consistently! I am a planner girl, as you might know if you follow me so of course I am also using my paper planner. But when it comes to a monthly calendar, I always use a digital calendar in conjunction with my planner.
The app I use is called FamCal. I started using this app when it first came to the ios market because I was always trying new calendar apps until I found the perfect one. Once I started using FamCal, that was it! I knew it would last in my life & I still happily use it to this day.
Let’s get into all the good stuff about this app, shall we?!
So when it comes to anything planner or calendar related, I sort of have high standards. One of the first things that I look for is if it shows me a monthly overview with the text in the boxes.. & this does!
It is crucial for me to see everything laid out on a monthly spread. Unlike the IOS calendar and other calendar apps similar that show just colored dots on the monthly view, the FamCal app shows all the text that you write in in the monthly view. It does give you the option to view it in dot form or text form, so I obviously opted for text form & it is a game changer for calendar apps!
You can also view everything in this calendar app on a weekly & daily view if you like to see your schedule that way, which is awesome. The interface is so easy to use & very simple to switch back & forth the view every option.
This app is great to have on your own, but if you are sharing it with your significant other or family members.. it is perfect!
This app was made as a family calendar app, hence the name. So it lets you grant access to others that you want to be able to view & edit the calendar. It also has an area in which you can color code your children. So it is very useful for families.
A little hack & something I do… instead of using the color code system for different people in my family (which I only have one child & a husband) I use the color code for different categories. (I have an entire video linked below showing exactly how to use this app). So I use categories such as work schedules for my husband & me, school & babysit schedules for my daughter, appointments & events of course, bills, holidays & more. It is so nice seeing this all in the monthly view on your phone or tablet.
You might be thinking “she didn’t mention birthdays or anniversaries as one of her categories” which is true! There is a reason why. Another fabulous feature of this app is that there is a specific section that you input all birthdays & anniversaries (& if you enter their birth year it will tell you how old they are turning every year) then once it is all entered, it will always show a little icon on your monthly calendar indicating it is a birthday or anniversary & on your weekly & daily spreads it will actually show the name of the person whose birthday it is. Therefore, you never have to retype them! They are forever in your calendar & automatically put on calendar spreads. Love it!
Another great feature in the side bar of this calendar are the shopping lists & to do lists! These are so good, especially if sharing with family members. On the shopping list, when you run out of something or know you need something, simply type it in, it will automatically sync with everyone else using this app & whoever is at the store can view the list & get whatever you have on it! It’s great because there is also a to do list but it doesn’t stop there. You can make lists and title them whatever you want- so add a wish list, books to read list, gift ideas list, projects list.. whatever you want!
Also in the side bar of this app is a memos tab. You can keep notes in here. I like to keep reference stuff that we need to access when out and about. You can even comment on memos. So another hack for you is you can use them as trackers. Title it whatever it is & comment on it to track. For example, if you like to track your daily mood or health, you can comment the info and it will have the date stamp already there for you. I like to have one titled Med Tracker for my daughter for when she was sick with ear infections so my husband & I were able to comment on it when we gave her her medicine & what her temperature was so we had that information but it was also great because when I brought her to her doctor I had all the info there with me to tell them exactly what was going on. Just a little parenting calendar hack 🙂
There are more great features in the side bar like a place to import your contacts, a way to export your schedule if you want to print it to hang on the fridge or give someone as well as settings to help customize the app perfectly for you! You can also use this on your Apple Watch and as a widget on your phones, which is really convenient!
I could keep typing about how much I love this app, but give it a try for yourself! After all, it is free! And it is password protected so you can access it anywhere if you ever lose your device or just to help protect your info! It is just overall the best calendar app in my opinion!
If you want, you can check out my video below where I go in detail how to use the app, how the interface works & how seamless it all is. It is 2020, a digital calendar is a must, even if you paper plan still like me. It is so convenient & helpful. If things make life a little easier & organized, they are so worth it!
