For reference, I am a functional planner gal with pops of pretty in my planner. I use a ring bound pocket planner & am currently in my Filofax Malden. Okay okay, let’s get into it! These are in no special order by the way.
- PLANNERS! Of course I have to start with planners! There are two amazing planner brands I am about to mention that are on Amazon: FILOFAX & MOTERM. I LOVE both of these brands. Filofax is like the OG of planners. I have had Filofax planners many times through my life. I love them. They are great quality & affordable. The other is Moterm. When Moterm first came to Amazon I started using them- before there was ever even buzz about them. I just happen to (consistently) check Amazon for planners to see if & when they get anything new… #planneraddict. Moterm is super affordable & great quality in my opinion. Their style mimics that of the high end luxe planners you see allover social media. If you find a Moterm you like on Amazon, snatch it up fast! They truly sell quickly. I highly recommend both of these brands if you want something of great quality but at super great prices!
2. PENS! I have to talk about my favorite pens! I mean, if you are writing a ton you want a pen that can keep up, amiright?! I have two favorite pens that I use in my planner. Now, it might help to mention that I use a pocket planner & write small in it, so my pens need to be fine tipped! I use .38 tips on my pens which is perfect for pocket planners. The first one is an OG for me that I used for several years, the Uniball Signo RT Ultra Micro. I love this pen! Super fine tip, smooth writing & a really comfortable grip. It is one that’ll never leave my collection. This next one is another good one that prior to this, you could only get (that I knew of) from jet pens. However, the Muji Gel Ink Ballpoint Pen .38 is now on Amazon! This is a basic stick pen with a cap & there is nothing special about its clear exterior. BUT, it is all about the writing experience! It is super smooth & again has a fine tip perfect for those who like that. I buy both of these pens in bulk! P.S. I am always open to pen suggestions too, comment your favorites below! We can’t own too many pens after all 😉
3. Let’s talk HIGHLIGHTERS! I hate those fluorescent old school highlighters. So I love to use MILDLINERS & TOMBOW BRUSH PENS. If you are part of the planner community, you know all about these I’m sure. But for those of you just tuning in, you’re about to fall in love with your new favorite markers! The Zebra Mildliners are great little highlighter s that come in neutrals, muted, pastel & bold colors. I personally love the gray & the gold Mildliners. But there are soooo many other great colors for you to choose from! Now let’s talk about the Tombow Brush Pens. I do not know who popularized these within the planner community as these markers were intended for illustrators, but bless their heart because they are incredible as muted, neutral toned highlighters! I personally love the portrait pack & the gray scale pack, but again these are offered in so many colors! Just be sure to use light ones to highlight with! Both Mildliners & Tombow Dual Brush Pens are double ended giving you one end to highlight with & one end to write with.
4. As a pocket ring planner gal here, I need to mention my favorite HOLE PUNCH! This hole punch is not just your regular hole puncher, it’s a cool hole puncher (name that movie). This hole punch comes in various colors & is ADJUSTABLE! So if you use different planner sizes or might in the future, you can slide this to different presets (including: mini, pocket, a6, personal & a5) so you can easily punch a stack of inserts to fit any planners. It is by Rapesco & I own mine in a gorgeous periwinkle! It seriously makes life so much easier if you print & punch your own inserts!
5. Again, as someone who prints, cuts & punches her own planner inserts (which I LOVE because it is so nice to be able to do this whenever you need new ones) I have to mention my PAPER TRIMMER! I know, this might seem like it is not as exciting talking about a paper trimmer but it is crucial for me to have! Without it, I cannot trim my planner inserts down. I have been using this paper trimmer for soooo long & it works fantastically. It is the Fiskars paper trimmer & it is super affordable & will last so long. The replacement blades are also super cheap too! This is also great for scrapbooking or anything that requires lots of paper cutting 🙂
6. Let’s chat about NOTEBOOKS for a second. I have tried and had & loved so many different planners in my lifetime. So I can strongly recommend these to you depending your planning style. The first, Moleskine grid notebooks. They are simply notebooks but if you have ever checked out my planner flip, you’d know that I like to insert these in the back of my ring planners to have a place to easily jot notes. Another, the STALOGY notebooks. If you are part of the planner community, you’ve certainly heard of these. They are so amazing with smooth, thin paper & they lay flat open (much like a Hobonichi, which is another planner I recommend if you like bound book style!)so they are easy to write in. The experience when using these is great. I used to use these for bujo style a Moterm leather cover, but have since started using them in a different way. I actually rip the pages out, punch them & add them into my ring planner because I love the paper so much! Truly great notebooks!
7. Anyone else out there obsessed with STICKY NOTES & just have them allover your planners, notebooks, mirrors, cabinets, foreheads… just about everywhere you look!? My absolute favorite & most used sticky notes are the Post It white ones. I also love transparent ones & some decorative ones, but I find myself always using the basic white ones. They are just so great for jotting notes on, stick so well and lets not forget you can print on them! (If you want to check out some FREE prtinabe sticky notes, check out my FREEBIES)
8. Speaking of sticky notes, I need to mention sticky PAGE TABS & FLAGS! I love themmm! They help keep me organized in my planner! Many people use the page flags for “task cards” (refer to Mady Plans for this awesome system she created). As far as the page tabs go, I use these for tabbing off my planner pages to mark a spot or draw my attention to something. Unlike back in the day, instead of the fluorescent old school ones, now there are so many more options like more neutral & muted colors.. even transparent! My planner is never without a few.
9. DATE DOTS! There are so many planner shops out there who sell beautiful, neutral toned sticky date dots that I highly recommend you check out if using date dots is definitely your thing. But, if you are still figuring out if they are what work in your planner system, I highly recommend you giving these Washi sticky dots a go. They are super affordable, are offered in many colors & work great as date dots, color coding or bullet points in your planners or on your calendars to draw your attention to something.
10. VELLUM! If you do not know what vellum is, it is basically specialty paper- like a thicker tracing paper. It is a frosted transparent paper great for printing on to layer things in your planner. So if you love that layered look, this is what you need for it. I realize this isn’t something I “need” for planning but it is something I love in my planner & allows me to customize my planner more. I have found a really great pack of vellum from Amazon that is thin enough to not bulk up your planner too much yet thick enough to remain sturdy and not rip. It has become my favorite vellum pack as it is also sooo affordable! Since I use a pocket planner, I also like to cut mine into 4s before printing my own freebies, since my freebies are in the center of the page, then tape the cut vellum into the middle of the copy paper so when I print, I can get 4 out of a sheet instead of wasting all the excess. (Obv. it depends what size planner you are using to cut it down first. Take into consideration the space to but a little piece of tape on too.) So I HAD to mention this one!
I hope you all enjoyed my TOP TEN Amazon Favorites for planning! Be sure to drop a comment below and let me know some of your Amazon favorites for your planning routines!
