Are you unsure if you should be using a daily or weekly planner? Needing to know the pros & cons of a daily vs. weekly planner insert? Well, you came to the right place!
In today’s post I am going to go into the details of both daily & weekly planner inserts so it can help make your decision a little clearer. I also have a video linked below all about this topic as well as in depth tutorial on the daily insert I will be mentioning today!
Let’s get into it!
Let’s start with Daily inserts / planners! The pros about having a daily insert is that you have so much space to write out your daily tasks, ideas, schedules, everything! You can divide your daily up for certain aspects of your life, perhaps a personal to do and a work to do. You can set it up however you want!
The wonderful thing about the inserts pictured above is that they are editable! These are from Perfectionism Prints on Etsy & they are so great for a daily because you can completely customize them. However, if purchasing a planner with dailies in them already, most of them come with the space for a schedule & running task lists.
Dailies give such a nice detailed overview of your day & are great for all of us list makers who have a lot going on in our day!
You will also want to take into account what planner size you are using. If you are using a smaller planner like a pocket or a6, having dailies might work better so you have more space for a days worth of to dos!
The cons? They take up more space in your planner since you need more of them causing your planner to be bulkier & heavier. If you only keep like a couple months worth in your planner no biggie, but if you want the whole years worth, that can get pretty heavy!
Also, flipping between 7 different pages just to see what is going on for you week, can get old fast. BUT, if you find the right daily & prefer to plan out day by day then a daily insert would be great! I personally have used both a daily and a weekly, at different times, and I honestly love them both! It really depends what I have going on at that time in my life and need to see how much space I need to have to do my weekly / daily breakdowns.
Which brings me into my next topic… weekly inserts / planners! This style of insert gives a fabulous overview of your week. There are SO MANY different versions of a weekly insert you can find! There are horizontal layouts, vertical, week on one page, week on two pages, & even four pages! With so many different options, there is something likely to suit your needs!
The pros of a weekly you ask?! Well, they definitely reduce bulk in your planner. For instance, if you are doing a week on one page vs a daily which would be 7 pages, you just down you paper by a significant amount. This causes your planner less bulk & to be a little more lightweight. You can also put weeks further out in your planner since they do not take up much space.
Weeklies also give you such a nice overview. You can see everything laid out for your entire week typically on a single page spread, so no flipping page to page to find info you are looking for.
Again, take your planner size into consideration. If you are using a small planner like a pocket size then you will not have many lines to fill out all your tasks for the week or much space in the boxes for your daily schedule. If you are in a large planner then you would have more space.
However, depending what you like to have written down in your planner, you might already know which insert would best suite you! So for me, I typically use a weekly insert. I am in a pocket planner & have always made it work for me because I do not write down every little thing (just part of my planning system). I like to use reference sheets & I do not write down routine things because I already know to do them. I use my weeklies to write down day specific tasks & anything that needs to get done during that week so I didn’t need an entire daily to do that.
However, I did recently switch to a daily insert (the editable one by Perfectionism Prints) because life has gotten a little bit busier over here & I was rung in out of space on My weekly. Because these inserts are editable, I have on my daily a section for running tasks for the day, a section specific for Plan With Bee content tasks, a notes section, a daily reminder section that I also have pre-typed in daily tasks that I need to do that sometimes slip my mind (usually things that are done ever few days) & a small schedule section to put if there are any holidays, birthdays, appointments for that day as well as our work schedules & my daughters school schedule.
With this insert I get a detailed overview of my day & I love it!
Honestly, life is always changing & there will be weeks you want dailies & days you think you want just a weekly. Heck, you might even want to use both at the same time depending how your planning system is and how you like to break things down.
So when deciding which style to go for, or to try first, I would say to create a list for yourself of the items you want & need to list, track & see for the day to determine how much space you need to write those things. That & your planner size truly determine what you will end up utilizing more.
I hope you enjoyed this post & it gave you some helpful tips about choosing between the two! You can watch my video below discussing this as well as showing in great detail HOW to edit the daily inserts by Perfectionism Prints!
